Promoting a conservation ethic in people of all ages is central to our mission of Conservation in Action. Audubon Canyon Ranch offers exploration and learning opportunities for nature enthusiasts of all ages on three of its preserves: the Martin Griffin Preserve, the Bouverie Preserve and the Modini Mayacamas Preserves.

Join us on the preserves to explore seasonal changes, observe nesting birds and migrating newts, learn about native peoples' use of the land, hike past wildflower meadows and through redwood groves. Visitation is limited on all three preserves in order to ensure that human impact is kept in balance with land and habitat preservation goals.

Biodiversity Bioblitz

Oct 6 2017 - 9:00am to 3:00pm
Modini Mayacamas Preserves

Come explore the Modini Mayacamas Preserves with other serious “nature nerds” and experts. Our goal is to add species records each season to the Biodiversity of the Modini Mayacamas on iNaturalist. Each of us tends to spot, and share enthusiasm and knowledge about, species that others rarely notice. Mark your calendar the first Friday of each month, join iNaturalist and our Biodiversity project, and then bring your enthusiasm, expertise, and camera.

Why Nature Needs Lions & Why Lions Need Humans

Audubon Canyon Ranch Event Calendar

Why Nature Needs Lions & Why Lions Need Humans

Oct 8 2017 - 9:00am
Pepperwood Preserve

ACR's Education Programs Manager Julia Clothier serves on our Mountain Lion Team and has been involved with everything from late night lion captures to designing lessons that emphasize the ecological importance of top predators and the significant cost resulting from their removal. When we deliberately link current lion research with conservation education and public outreach, not only do we replace myths and fears with understanding and respect, we decrease the number of lion depredation permits issued to landowners in the study area. Learn how ACR’s Mountain Lion Project is breaking new ground in joining conservation research with community stewardship and public education.
