Steep, Wild Country, No Facilities, No Pets Please dress for the weather and bring at least one quart of drinking water. You may also wish to bring a hat, an extra layer and a snack. There are no toilets, no water fountains, no restaurants, no trash collection...this is a primitive and wild place! Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the outing. For hikes you will want shoes that protect your toes and give you good traction on uneven ground, such as sneakers or hiking boots. Please leave your pets at home.

The Modini Mayacamas Preserves This private nature sanctuary, owned and managed by Audubon Canyon Ranch, has a range of different public access opportunities. Pine Flat Road, a public county road with pullouts, meanders through the preserve, allowing visitors to enjoy the views and birdwatching from roadside pullouts anytime without appointment. Please drive very cautiously, this is a one lane winding road with very limited sight lines.

A Peek Into M.F.K. Fisher's Last House

Audubon Canyon Ranch Event Calendar

A Peek Into M.F.K. Fisher's Last House

Aug 26 2017 - 11:00am to 1:00pm
Bouverie Preserve

Join us for this Peek Into M.F.K. Fisher's Last House, the home of legendary author M.F.K. Fisher. Mary Frances, as she was known by her family and friends, wrote 13 books during 21 years of residence in Last House, which was built for her by architect David Pleydell-Bouverie. She treasured her palazzino, which features a simple design and connection to the land. Its two large rooms are divided by a huge bathroom, with black tile floors throughout and built-in bookcases for over 2,000 books. One arched porch looks west to Sonoma Mountain and another looks east to the 535 acres of land protected by ACR.

ACR is renovating M.F.K. Fisher's “Last House” on the Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen into an exclusive destination honoring her legacy and celebrating her love of food, wine, literature and nature. As part of the restoration, some of Mary Frances' personal art, books and other possessions have returned to the house, giving it a bit of the feel it had when she lived there. The Chinese Red wall of art in her bathroom has been recreated, and can now be enjoyed as it was when Mary Frances welcomed visitors to Last House.

Click here to buy tickets. Tickets available for purchase through Saturday August 19th, or as available. For groups of 10 or more, please contact the ACR development team.

Light refreshments served.

Events benefitting M.F.K. Fisher’s Last House on Bouverie Preserve curated by Sheana Davis / The Epicurean Connection.

Come see M.F.K. Fisher’s living space and imagine James Beard, Julia Child and Bert Greene cooking there as in the event photo above.
